In post-menopause, the risk of endometrial carcinoma is as high as 60-90 % in the presence of abnormal uterine bleeding as the endometrial thickness and age of the patient increases
Ultrasound demonstrating a thickened endometrial rhyme (>4mm) in patients who have post-menopausal bleeding. In this case the risk of having endometrial carcinoma is higher than 20%
Remember that bleeding can also be scarce and isolated and that in most cases the tumour is diagnosed when it is still inside the uterus and can rarely be asymptomatic.
